ATTENDANCE POLICY

One of the most important factors for success at school is to attend class daily. Students who are absent excessively from the instructional programs are more likely to have problems with their academic goals. Excessive school absenteeism can result in course failure.

Highlights of attendance policy established by Lincoln-Martí Schools are as follows:

1. A secondary student accumulating ten or more unexcused class absences in an annual course or five or more unexcused absences in a semester course will be subject to the withholding of final credit, pending a student/parent requested administrativ

*   Medical appointments

*   Death in  the family

*   Observance of a religious holiday or service when it is mandated for all members of a faith that such a holiday or service be observed

*   School sponsored event or activity previously approved

*   Other individual student absences beyond the control of the parent or the student as approved by the principal or designee

3. All other absences not listed above in item 2 are considered unexcused

Parents have an obligation not only, to keep their children in school, but also to report and explain any absence to the teacher or principal of the school daily, or as soon as possible. Failure to comply may result in penalty.

Students with absences have the opportunity to make up all missed work within a reasonable time. Students whose absences are unexcused may receive an F on the work missed.

THE FAMILY RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT

The Family Rights and Privacy Act is a federal law generated to protect the accuracy and privacy of student educational records. Under this law, parents/legal guardians have the right to inspect, release, and challenge information contained within the student's educational records. Without prior consent, only authorized individuals will have access to confidential and other kinds of information contained in those records.

Parents/legal guardians are guaranteed the right, upon request, to inspect and review their children's records and to obtain copies of them under federal and state laws. Parents/legal guardians are guaranteed a right of "meaningful" access to copies of their children's records. The parent's rights extend to any lawyer, lay person, or advocate whom the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) authorizes to represent him or her. Access must be granted within 30 calendar days from the initial request.

SCHOOL REGULATIONS

ATTENDANCE        Walking_to_school.gif - (7K)

School is open for instruction 184 days each year. Regular school attendance is important. The student need 148 days as a minimum (80%) of attendance.  Every absence or tardy must be followed by a note from home or phone call to the office.

IMPORTANT: If a student is going to be absent, the parent or guardian is requested to call the main office and give the following information:

1. The student's name and grade student.

2. Reason for the absence.

3. Name of the person calling and relationship with the student.

4. When the student is expected to return to school.

Upon returning to school, the student must present a note from the parent stating the dates and reason for the absence(s). The absence will be unexcused if the student does not bring a note.

 It is the student's responsibility to request work from each teacher for the days absent.

Students must make-up school work when absent or tardy to obtain a grade.

TARDINESS          Alarm_rings.gif - (8K)

  After 8:30 a.m.  Student is tardy to school  !!!

Being on time for school is a valuable part of the child's learning process. By being on time, the child will be able to prepare for the day's work in a relaxed manner. If you know your child is going to be late, please send a note stating the reason. In this way, you and your child's teacher will know that the child was not lingering or playing on the way. Continual tardiness or absence will be investigated and notice will be given to parents.  More than three unexcused tardies will equal one absence.  Ten or more unexcused absences in an annual course or five in a semester course will be subject to the withholding of final credit.

The school will always cooperate with the parents in case of an emergency, but the responsibility of notifying the school lies with the parents. No student shall be kept after regular dismissal time unless the parent has been notified.

EARLY DISMISSAL

Only!!!:  With medical appointment or emergencies with a parent's note. The NOTE must include a telephone number to verify excuse if students must leave on their own.
