ii (Initial Instruction)

• Minimum 90 minutes of uninterrupted reading instruction

iii (Immediate Intensive Intervention)

libros2Small Group Reading Instruction: All students will participate in small group readinginstruction based on their current re ading level as determined by diagnostic measures. Teachers will provide direct reading instruction, focusing on the ultimate goal of reading comprehension, as students actively engage in reading text at their instructional level. This is a crucial part of a student’s day, as every student is provided instruction that meets his/her exact needs at the exact moment needed, during engagement with text. This time will also allow teachers to continually monitor progress and identify student needs in a dynamic setting, facilitating the assessment to instruction cycle.


Literacy Stations (Small Group Rotations): Literacy Stations will be set up throughout the room in various areas to allow students to work independently or in a small group setting during teacher-directed Guided Reading rotations. Students will use a variety of instructional materials and computer-assisted technology to explore and expand their literacy knowledge. The planned activities will reinforce and extend students’ literacy learning as students progress to become

independent 21st century critical thinkers. Teachers will constantly monitor Literacy Stations to assure they are providing the reinforcements necessary for enhancing student success.


Print-Rich Environment: Each classroom will maintain a classroom library to include a collection of quality literature written at a variety of reading levels and in a variety of genre forms inclusive of both fiction and nonfiction. The students will be provided with reading materials that support their individual interests, while providing differentiated support of their abilities.
